Master of Arts in Art History
The graduate program in art history prepares students for careers in education, museums, curatorial practices, public-engaged scholarship, publishing, and arts administration, as well as for further study at the doctoral level.It also offers an opportunity for continuing education for teachers of art history, history, visual culture and related subjects.After a foundation of graduate-level coursework and a comprehensive exam, the degree culminates in the completion of a Master's thesis.The goal is to give graduate students the methodological, cultural and pedagogical training they need for advanced work in art history.It can be completed in four semesters of full-time study as well as part-time within a more flexible timeline..

Admission Requirements
We seek motivated and inquisitive students who share our passion for the visual arts and for thinking critically about different types of works of art and forms of aesthetic expression.Students who have majored in fields other than art history are welcome to apply.Applicants are required to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher (if the overall GPA falls below 3.0, a GPA of 3.0 for the last two years prior to application may be considered adequate).
Application Procedures
The art history program accepts graduate applicants for both fall and spring semesters, but not the summer semester. For priority consideration for financial support, submit your application by March 1 for the following fall semester and by October 1 for the following spring semester.
Students wishing to enter the Master of Arts (MA) in Art History program should apply directly to theLSU Graduate School.

The following materials are required:
- Application for admission to the LSU Graduate School, including a narrative statement of purpose
- Application fee
- One set of official transcripts for all previous college or university work
- Appropriate test scores(TOEFL for most international applicants and optional GRE)
- At least two confidential letters of recommendation
