Organized by the Print Guild of LSU,The Wild West Portfoliois on view in Barnes Ogden Gallery October 3–October 24.
The Wild West Portfoliofeatures prints by student artists who participated in the LSU Print Guild's most recent print exchange. In spring 2024, the Print Guild issued a nationwide call for undergraduate students to submit prints for a themed portfolio.Participating artists were asked to create an edition of sixteen prints interpreting the theme, "Wild West." Each artist received a unique edition of fifteen prints and the LSU Printmaking Archive retained a full suite of the prints to share with students for years to come.
A print exchange or exchange portfolio is a long-held tradition in the printmaking community. An exchange allows students and professional artists to respond to contemporary themes or prompts, thus exchanging ideas with artists in and outside their communities.Because this exchange is student-focused, accessibility was an important organizing factor for the Print Guild. The Guild kept costs and participation requirements low, so students would have access to the opportunity to build their own collection of work while sharing in this important printmaking tradition.
A reception is planned for Thursday, October 10 from 5–7 p.m.in the Barnes Ogden Art & Design Complex Gallery with a demonstration by visiting artist Jacob Crook at 6:30 p.m.
The reception and demonstration are free and open to all!light refreshments will be served.
