hth华体会体育app官网The LSU College of Art & Design received a grant from the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) American Architecture and Landscape Field Trip Program to support LSU College of Art & Design-hosted field trips in 2019, to tour the historic architecture and landscape architecture of the Louisiana.hth华体会体育app官网The grant proposal, written by Lake Douglas, associate dean of research and development and professor of landscape architecture, aims to connect Louisiana youth with opportunities to learn about local architecture and landscapes.

"It's a great opportunity for high school age students in Louisiana to get to know the built landscapes of their own state," Douglas said.

hth华体会体育app官网Architecture faculty members and landscape architecture students attended the field trip with over 40 participating high school students from local communities, to help educate about different aspects and spark an interest in the design fields.

The high school students had the opportunity to observe their environments and sketch their surroundings, as LSU design students do in their studio courses, MLA candidate Taylor Fehmel noted.

On the first College of Art & Design-hosted field trip on March 23, 2019, the students and faculty toured sites around the city of New Orleans.They visited sites including: the 18thc.hth华体会体育app官网architecture and urban design of Vieux Carre!the 19thhth华体会体育app官网century architecture (including St.Louis Cathedral) of Jackson Square!1970s urban improvements in Washington Artillery Park/Moonwalk!19th-21stc.improvements of the French Market!21st-century Crescent Park!City Park, including the Scuplture Garden, New Orleans Museum of Art, and Botanical Garden!natural bayou/historic trade route Bayou Saint John!late 18thc.residence Pitot House!and 20thc.estate Longue Vue House & Garden.

hth华体会体育app官网The SAH American Architecture and Landscape Field Trip grant program funds architecture and landscape field trips for underserved students in grades 3 through high school.hth华体会体育app官网To deliver awe-inspiring field trips, SAH seeks to partner with other not-for-profit organizations that offer youth design education programs and docent-led tours of architecture, parks, gardens, neighborhoods, and town/city centers.hth华体会体育app官网We fund tour programs that enable students to learn about the history of the built environment by walking through and experiencing great architecture, public parks, gardens, and urban planning.

hth华体会体育app官网Established in 2015, the SAH American Architecture and Landscape Field Trip Program has made grants to a wide variety of not-for-profits including house museums/creative place making sites, summer workshops focusing on architecture and design, schools of architecture with youth outreach programs, and arts and architecture high schools.
