Interior designers give life to the interior spaces we inhabit.They shape, organize, furnish, and adorn the insides of buildings to reflect our personal and cultural aspirations. Today's interior designers do not simply decorate.They consider meaning and identity, function and purpose, and issues pertaining to health and safety.They work on wide range of interiors, from residential to corporate projects, designing spaces within new buildings and finding ways to adapt and re-use existing structures.

The Bachelor of Interior Design Program
We offer a Bachelor of Interior Design (BID) program that is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and that meets the education requirements for the NCIDQ exam and for licensure as an interior designer.Our program is professionally oriented and focuses on commercial and corporate interiors. We teach specialized knowledge in design, color and light, history and theory, furnishings and materials, environmental systems and controls, interior construction and building systems, and regulations.Additionally, we teach critical thinking skills, an understanding of the global context of design, the value of collaboration, and creative and professional modes of communication.
We offer a wonderful environment where students attend a large, SEC flagship universityandenjoy the benefits of a small, close-knit community.In the School of Interior Design, students and faculty are on a first name basis.We closely advise students on course selections, progress through the curriculum, and career goals.We also ensure that there is room in required courses so that each student can graduate on time when following our prescribed curriculum.
Students take a design studio during every semester of the professional curriculum.The design studio is the core of our curriculum work, where students design projects over an extended period of time.To work on these projects, you will be assigned a desk/workstation of your own.This desk will become your primary work place and no one else's.The studio and your workstation are secure, and you will have access to your workspace 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Beyond the Studio
Our students are required to participate in professional internships to gain valuable experience working in the profession.Our well-connected faculty and well-placed alumni help facilitate these internship opportunities and are available to offer guidance and assistance.
We offer opportunities for you to study off campus and abroad, as well.hth华体会体育app官网Our faculty lead field trips and excursions to nearby attractions and national and regional interior design conferences, and our third- and fourth-year students have the option to visit a major city each spring, where they can enjoy the cultural offerings of a metropolitan environment and meet with principals and designers at prestigious architecture and interior design firms in cities such as San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.You can travel abroad and receive course credit through several academic programs abroad offered through the College of Art & Design and LSU, including programs in South Africa, China, Germany, and the Netherlands.
LSU School of Interior Design alumni work in all areas of the profession in cities across the country, including New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, New York, and Washington, D.C.Interior design alumni frequently visit the college to serve as jurors during final reviews or to lead workshops or educational seminars.Thanks, in part, to our alumni network, the majority of our students are employed within six months of graduation.
