The Master of Interior Design offers two tracks: thesis or non-thesis.
The school-level academic course plan for each student will be developed in consultation with and approved by the student's graduate advisory committee.The committee will include the student's major advisor and at least two additional members of the graduate faculty such that theLSU Graduate School‘s requirements for graduate committees are satisfied.
All students complete core coursework and self-directed research or research informed design in an area of individual interest.Students are required to identify a field of concentration and complete electives in their area of concentration.
Thesis Track: 30 credit hours of courses and 6 credit hours of IDS000 Thesis for a total of 36 hours.
Students enrolled in this track identify a research topic and conduct basic or applied research
culminating in a master's thesis.
CORE COURSES – at least 9 credit hours (3 required courses)
• DART7002 Research Methods (3)
• ID7003 Advanced Design for Health and Wellbeing (3)
• ID7005 Proposal Development (3)
ELECTIVES – 21 credit hours approved by the student's advisory committee designed to
support the student's research goals.Students may enroll in ID7007 Independent Study (3) for
one semester.
THESIS – 6 credit hours.
• IDS000 Thesis Research (1-12)
Non-thesis Track: 30 credit hours of courses and 6 credit hours of ID7900 Directed Design Project in
Interior Design for a total of 36 hours.Students enrolled in in this track develop and execute a research
informed design investigation culminating in in an oral presentation and final exhibit of research,
process, design solution and recommendations.
CORE COURSES – at least 9 credit hours (3 required courses)

• ID7003 Advanced Design for Health and Wellbeing (3)
• ID7005 Proposal Development (3)
ELECTIVES – 21 credit hours approved by the student's advisory committee designed to support
the student's area of concentration.Students may enroll in ID7007 Independent Study and/or
ID7009 Advanced Internship in Interior Design not to exceed a total of 6 credit hours.Credit hours
from ID7007 and ID7009 contribute to the total number of required electives.
DIRECTED DESIGN PROJECT – 6 credit hours.
