Matt Kenyon, "Cloudburst"

The School of Art presents a lecture by artist Matt Kenyon,CLOUDBURST: S.W.A.M.P.Studies of Work, Atmosphere and Mass Productionin conjunction with Baton Rouge Gallery: center for contemporary art.

The lecture will be on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 5:00 in Room 103 Design Auditorium.

About S.W.A.M.P.

Matt Kenyon's S.W.A.M.P.(Studies of Work Atmospheres and Mass Production) focuses on critical themes addressing the effects of global corporate operations, mass media and communication, military- industrial complexes, and general meditations on the liminal area between life and artificial life.SWAMP has been making work in this vein since 1999 using a wide range of media, including custom software, electronics, mechanical devices, and often times working with living organisms.

For roughly 13 years, S.W.A.M.P.was the product of a collaboration between Kenyon and Douglas Easterly before Kenyon began running the practice solo in 2012.Select works withinCloudburstwere initially created in collaboration with Easterly, includingNotepad,Coke is It,Consumer Index, andSpore 1.1.

Artist Bio

Matt Kenyon is the director of the graduate program at the University of Buffalo's Department of Art.Previously, he was faculty at the University of Michigan and the Rhode Island School of Design.Kenyon earned his BFA from Southeaster Louisiana State and his MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University.While he is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, his TED, and MacDowell Colony Fellowships standout, as does this distinguished FILFE Prix Lux Art prize and his inclusion in Coolhunting's CH25 showcase.Additional highlights from Kenyon's career include exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, Katzen Arts Center, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and Museum of Contemporary Art Karlsruhe, Germany, as well as International Print Center New York.
